Ella

Nine Arch Bridge, misty peaks and the famous hill-country train.

About Ella

Ella is a small hill town wrapped in tea gardens and cloud forest, and it has become the most loved stop on the island's hill-country circuit. The town sits at the head of a gap in the mountains, so the view south runs uninterrupted all the way to the coastal plain on a clear morning.

Its landmark is the Nine Arch Bridge, a colonial-era railway viaduct built entirely of stone and cement without steel, curving through dense jungle. Watching the blue train cross it is one of the great sights in Sri Lanka.
