Sinharaja Rainforest

A UNESCO-listed tropical rainforest with exceptional biodiversity — endemic birds, rare amphibians and towering primary canopy.

About Sinharaja Rainforest

Sinharaja is the last substantial stretch of primary lowland rainforest left in Sri Lanka, and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Its importance is out of all proportion to its size: more than half of the island's endemic mammals, butterflies, reptiles and trees are found within it.

For birdwatchers it is the single best site in the country. Sinharaja's mixed-species feeding flocks — dozens of birds of many species moving through the canopy together — are among the largest and most studied anywhere in the world, and most of Sri Lanka's 34 endemic bird species can be seen here.
