Yala

Leopards, elephants and epic safari country.

About Yala

Yala is Sri Lanka's most famous national park and holds one of the highest densities of leopards found anywhere on earth. Its landscape is unlike the classic jungle picture — open scrub, brackish lagoons and pale granite outcrops running down to a wild stretch of Indian Ocean coast.

Beyond leopards, the park supports elephants, sloth bears, crocodiles, spotted deer and well over 200 bird species. Block 1 offers the highest chance of a sighting; the quieter blocks reward visitors who can give the park more than a single game drive.

  • Leopard tracking on an early-morning game drive
  • Elephants, sloth bears and saltwater crocodiles
  • Outstanding birdlife around the lagoons and waterholes
